warnings!
When I say “all is good,” make sure to read between the lines. Last week, an unnamed resident was accidently swept to sea while crossing the river , on the main beach, at night. It’s pretty comman for drunks but in her case, the big rain up river , of which we cant see and he ammount of clothing were the odds against her. Luckily alot of neighbors heard her cries of help. The first reponders were my father in law and my friend Christian… who made the rescue nude…had to throw that in for a little visual. When crossing always look for the locals path if possible. Take all water damaged items and hold them high as possible. It is often the case to have the center of the river much deeper than the edges. Most nights are ok but there are definely nights that can quite a task.
Another danger is flying dogs off the town waterfall. Huh? This week some friends went to a hike to the pristine upper pools above the town waterfall and along with them was a local stray dog.. A white pitbull with brown markings. Things went bad when the dog walked across the slimmy green edge of the mouth and fell to the lower pool, ten feet down. A friend ran for a rope and help, before he could do anything the dog panicked and jumped from that pool and from there is 100 feet down. A waiter was the only witness from down below. If the dog had hit someone… major problems! The dog was examined and is perfectly fine and chances are, not so eager to return to the pools. Yelapa is super safe… just keep your eyes open and be present.
